Cabin transport
Only dogs and cats up to max. 8 kg incl. box are allowed for transport in the cabin. If your pet travels with you in the cabin, it must be in a waterproof soft box bag (max. dimensions 55 x 40 x 23 cm), which ensures sufficient air supply.
The bag must always be closed on board, the head of your pet must not look out of the transport container and it must not leave the box. The box must also remain stowed under the seat during the entire flight. This is not possible on the Airbus 330/340 due to the nature of the seats in Business Class. For take-off and landing, the crew places the transport bag in the wardrobe, in the luggage rack or under a seat in Economy Class.
A mandatory reservation for cabin transport can be made via our Service Center +41 (0)848 333 593 or at services@flyedelweiss.com
Assistance dogs on board
Assistance dogs (e.g. guide dogs, emotional support dogs) are transported free of charge. Accepted are dogs that travel with a qualified person with reduced mobility who needs the support of the animal. Documents confirming that the dog has been trained for the activity must be presented at the time of booking.
It is at Edelweiss’ sole discretion to assess whether the documentation is sufficient. In order to transport the dog in the cabin, a doctor’s certificate confirming the passenger’s loyalty to the dog may also be required. No animals other than dogs will be accepted. For flights to/from the USA, we reserve the right to require proof that the dog is an assistance dog if the passenger’s assurances are not credible. We decide at our own discretion whether the assurances are credible and whether the proof is sufficient. Emotional Support dogs are only accepted on flights to/from the USA and direct connecting flights to/from the USA.
The right container
Pay sufficient attention to the purchase of the suitable transport container. Be aware that you may take your pet out of its familiar environment and make it feel stressed.
Tip: If possible, try to get your pet used to the Skykennel or the soft box bag before traveling.
Animal transport in the luggage compartment(Cargo)
As the owner, you are responsible for renting or buying the container. Transport boxes can be purchased directly at the Swissport supervisor counter or in a good pet shop.
No more than two animals may be transported in the same container. These must be of a similar size and each must weigh a maximum of 14kg. The animals must be able to stand, lie and move in the container.
We recommend that you check in at the airport at least 2 hours before departure.
